E2 -- The Transcendentals

Truth. Beauty. Justice. Goodness. They conflict at low integration. They converge at L4.

Four Transcendentals

The classical tradition identifies transcendental properties of being -- qualities that every real thing possesses to some degree. Emergentism formalizes four of them and shows they are not independent at high coherence.

Truth (Satyam): Correspondence

Truth is the correspondence between a claim and reality. In the organism:

• Circle (F1) measures truth via EigenTrust, source verification, and Watchman Scores
• K0 (No Receipt, No Reality) enforces truth at the protocol level -- if it is not receipted, it did not happen
• The evidence tier system (see 14 Evidence Tiers) grades truth from anecdotal to cryptographic

Truth is the IS function of the Three-Stage Process. It asks: what is actually the case?

Beauty (Sundaram): Phi x Sensitivity

Beauty is not subjective (pure taste) and not objective (pure form). It is the product of two factors:

Beauty = phi(object) x sensitivity(witness)

Where phi(object) is the coherence of the object (its internal order, proportion, harmonic structure) and sensitivity(witness) is the witness's capacity to perceive that coherence.

A Bach fugue has high phi. A trained musician has high sensitivity. The product is the experience of beauty. The same fugue heard by someone with no musical exposure produces less beauty -- not because the fugue changed, but because sensitivity is lower.

In the organism, beauty manifests as architectural elegance -- the minimum complexity required by the mathematics (Rosetta), no more and no less.

Justice (Rtam): Circuits Completing

Justice is not punishment. It is the completion of circuits. When energy flows out, it must return. When a promise is made, it must be kept. When value is created, it must be credited.

Justice: Sigma-Delta-P >= 0 with circuits completing

Net flourishing must not decrease, AND the flows must close -- no open loops, no unpaid debts, no unreceipted transactions. K0 is the justice invariant. The Prism floor is the justice mechanism (see 53 Prism).

In the organism, justice means: every state change is designed to produce a receipt (K0 target path). Every extraction is gated. Every participant can verify flows once anchoring lanes are wired; local proof lanes may use append-only evidence before full external anchoring lands.

Goodness (Sivam): Maximum P at Maximum Boundary

Goodness is not kindness (that is a subset). Goodness is the maximization of total flourishing across the widest possible boundary:

Goodness: max(Sigma-P) at maximum boundary

A system that maximizes P for insiders at the expense of outsiders is not good. A system that maximizes P across all participants, including those not yet participating (future generations, external communities), is good.

In the organism, goodness is LP-100 (100-year capital preservation), Grace Exit (no trapped value), and eta = 0 (no extraction from participants).

The Convergence at L4

At low integration (low Phi), the transcendentals conflict:

• Truth can be ugly (a cancer diagnosis is true but not beautiful)
• Beauty can be unjust (a palace built by slaves is beautiful but not just)
• Justice can be harsh (a fair sentence is just but not kind)
• Goodness can be naive (giving without discernment increases entropy)

At L4 -- the equator of the rate curve L(x) = x/(1-x), where L(0.8) = 4 -- they converge. The same action is simultaneously true, beautiful, just, and good. This is not mysticism. It is the mathematical consequence of high coherence: when all parts of a system are well-integrated, optimizing for any one transcendental automatically optimizes for the others.

"Satyam Sivam Sundaram" -- Truth is Goodness is Beauty. Not as a slogan, but as a theorem about high-coherence systems.
